Caption: This M1900 pedestal-mounted gun, with 6-inch barrel and gun shield, was the type installed at Batteries Rathbone-McIndoe and Smith-Guthrie. The rapid-fire gun was used against mid-sized enemy ships, propelling armor-piercing or high-explosive shells of approximately 100 pounds up to 8 miles (13 kilometres). (14)
